Paul F. Betz received his BA from La Salle College before coming to Cornell's Department of English for his MA ('63) and Ph.D ('65). Betz's research was focused on the Romantic period. Betz' edition Benjamin the Waggoner by William Wordsworth was published by the Cornell University Press in 1981 and reissed in 1988. As a scholar and collector, Betz has been invited to curate a number of exhibitions; including an exhibit at Cornell University titled William Wordsworth and the Romantic Imagination: A Scholar's Collection, 2000, which featured numerous items from Betz's extensive collection of books, prints, drawings, paintings, manuscripts and memorabilia documenting William Wordsworth and the Wordsworth circle.
